I would have to see the visitor stats to know how many viewers this site gets a month to have an opinion on that side of things.
There are 2 functions this site has that the others don't.
1 - The information a beginner to kilts needs is easily viewed without membership. It's easy to find and helpful to those unsure of how or why to wear a kilt. And ... other sites can be intimidating to those already on a socially unsure limb.
2 - Since Tom passed, this is the only link to the past; to the beginnings of men in kilts in North America. I think those who are now new to kilts missed out on something. They missed out on the early struggles to separate kilts from skirts for men. Any guy can buy a kilt online, get it delivered to his door, get online advice as to accessories and which side goes in the front, and wear it down to the local pub without too much trouble because ... this site told people how easy it is to do! We shared our stories of almost completely positive responses to the wearing of kilts.
Look ... this site taught all the 'old hands' at those other sites that it was okay to wear a kilt. They learned what they needed to know to take the first steps out the door and become comfortable and natural in a kilt. Now they're showing the same to other newbies but there is a definite and obvious business side to the other sites that this site never had. I was #4 to sign up at XMarks and watched it become more geared to its advertisers than it's members.
This is the last, pure kilt forum as much as it was the first. It was always about the kilts and remains so today. I find this site an example of what a kilt forum SHOULD be! A forum first and foremost about kilts!
As for the historical value, how could we know where we're going if we don't know where we've been?
