I have to jump in to this discussion because it's about one of my favorite topics, beer. I agree with doc. Mass produced American beer is insipid at best. Doc asked why Americans don't produce quality beer? Simple two reasons: 1) The target buyers are kids. Ever see a young person try a Guinness? It's too much for them. Budweiser, Miller and the rest are easy to drink. Budweiser's slogan should be "Easy going down, easy coming up". 2) There are two kinds of beer drinkers. Quality beer drinkers and quantity beer drinkers. The people who buy American beers are quantity drinkers. They will sit in front of the boob tube and drink a twelve pack. Very few quality beer drinkers drink that way. (except on special occasions like when some else is buying). Guinness is mt preferred on tap brew. I have had fresh Guinness in Ireland and What a difference!!! Here in Maine we have a micro brewery on every corner. They produce a lot of FINE beers. My personal favorites are 'Coal Porter' out of Bar Harbor and 'Gritty's best Bitter' out of Portland, Maine. Not every micro brew is good. Some try to be too creative. One brewer I know produced a batch of 'Spruce beer'. It tasted like it an air freshener had fallen into the batch. Yuck!As for the super market beers I find 'Newcastle Honey nut brown' very good. Tell you what. Any of you find yourselves on the coast of Maine I'll take you on a beer tasting expedition.
Yum Yum! This conversation is making me thirsty! It's only 7:30 AM but what the heck, I'm Irish!!
