I am sorry to hear about the death of your beloved pet. I have a quirk about giving people condolences, people always say "lost". I hate it, "We lost our grandfather last night" it makes you sound irresponsible. You lost your keys, you lost a book but to have lost a person just sounds bad. Also I hate it when people say that they are sorry. But, only when they say "I'm sorry" after you have told them about a death. My father died 5 years ago, and I made a joke out of people saying it. I tell people he is dead and when they say "I'm sorry" I reply with mock anger and a straight face "Why are you the one who killed him, cause they never found his killer". The looks on their faces are priceless! My friends and people who know me well laugh like drains. If you cant tell I have a really dry sarcastic subtle and twisted sense of humour.
