You sound a bit like me. My Mother is Irish, both sides. My Father is Swiss and German. This is a good combination. When I get drunk I can throw myself down the stairs and beat myself up.
I too have reddish hair and a red beard. A bit less so than when I was a kid. More gray now than anything. Have you read 'Scotland is not for the Squeamish' by Bill Watkins? He was born an Irishman who grew up in England and Scotland. Excellent and very funny.
Our Cairn Terrier, McGregor died this morning and we are grieving. It is so hard to loose a beloved pet.
