Firstly William Wallace did not wear a kilt. He would have worn English style dress of leggings of some sort and a belted tunic. The kilt was not invented until many centuries after his death. Also many of the early celts went into battle naked. This si true the would cover themselves in a paint/dye called "Woad". This is why they were orginally called the Picts it means painted people. It was probably to strike fear into their enemies. Can you imagine thousands of blue naked armed men running at you? The claymore would also not have been used by Wallace, it didn't come around until the 1500's. That weapon probably never spent time in a sheath anyware near a battle field. Most likely it was just carried by hand into battle.
