Went out and bought -2- Stillwater Thrifty Kilts (Black Stewart and Irish
National Tartan). Almost as good as the Economy Kilt - only thing missing
is the leather straps/buckles. Fit is very good and the velcro is just the
thing for rapid dressing without struggling with the straps & buckles.
A good degree of adjustment with the velcro especially after eating.
About the same amount of pleats across the back as the Economy kilt but
they are however not sewen down beyond the waist band. And unlike the
SportKilt there is no elastic panel in the rear waist band The waist band
is about 3 inches wide maybe about an inch bigger than the Sportkilt.
No belt loops although with a casual kilt what would you need a belt for
when you have the velcro fastening. Sporran might be troublesome but again
it is a casual kilt. Length is right at the knee if you wear the kilt at the
navel. Alterations would be easy to adjust the hem length.
AND the real great part is the Thrifty Kilt is about $10.00 less than the
Economy. Only criticism is the limited tartan patterns available and would
like to see one continuous velcro strip in the waist instead of two small
ones just off to the sides.
Summing it up Stillwater scores again with the "BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK"
and great personal service.
