Frankly, you don't even have to be Scottish to be an American Kiltman or to wear a kilt, you only have to have the balls to wear one.
A kilt is simply the term we've all began to apply to any skirt made for a man to wear, the Scottish Kilt is only one kind of kilt now, not the only kind of kilt. Shoot, kilts predate Scotland anyway, by eons and by many names ... again, the Scottish kilt is just one kind of kilt, there were many variations world wide before Scotland and there are many variations coming back now.
We Americans just happen to be pushing kilts more than most on account of our amazing ability to take the best of any contributing culture, simplifing it, improving it, making it less expensive and then to enjoying the best of it, like anything else we've absorbed into our collective culture. It's the American way, sorry Scotland.
You know, it's really ironic that there are more people in the USA of Scottish descent now than there are in Scotland ... we have every bit as much a right to our Scottish Heritage as they do, really. Scots should be just as proud of their relatives for coming here and doing so feakin' great as we are of them, we're the same freakin' family, for Christs' sake.
As a Texan I'm only too proud to see folks elsewhere adopting the best of our 'outfit' ... it's only a joke to those without the balls to do it, here or there. I'll tell you what, it takes the same size balls wear a Cowboy Hat as it does to wear a Kilt, I wear both.
Kilt ON!
