"Before considering these tartans it is as well to clear up two points. The first is the definition of a Highland clan. A Highland clan is a special group of an aggregate of distinct families each professing descent from a common ancestor, all bound in loyalty to a chief who is the genealogical representer of that common ancestor who founded or is said to have founded the clan."
This is a load of bollocks, the definition of a highland clan has NOTHING to do with a shared ancestor or geanology. This is an american interpretation or an interpretation written for americans. The definition of a highland clan was ANYONE who would fight for a clan chief in return for protection and land. Where the hell does geanology fit in 16th century scotland. This distorted vision of history is disturbing me.
