I've always said that the kilt is bigger than Scotland and much older as well. Oddly enough the Scots are proving this in the article. Scots have a particularly honored version of the kilt and they are just trying to protect that version of it. There are older versions and newer versions, but they are all still versions of the kilt.
What is a kilt, you ask? A kilt is simply a skirt on a man. The very same thing on a woman could be called a kilt on a woman. A kilt is a skirt is a kilt, it only matters which gender is wearing it. Of course, this is a very Modernist definition, but definitions change with the times. The definitions quoted from dictionaries are simply dated, not wrong, but not current either.
Kilt Traditionalists, though slowly shrinking in numbers, many becoming more and more Modernists themselves, will continue to insist that the word 'kilt' itself belongs to the Scots and can only be used in reference to the Traditional Scottish Kilt ... the Scots, having insisted that there really is a Scottish Kilt, have just proven that there are other kinds of kilts too.
Ironic, ain't it. Kilt ON!
