I've long felt that not only should these other things not be called "Scottish Kilts" but they shouldn't be called "kilts" at all.
If one looks in the dictionary, one will find a definition along the lines of: "A knee-length skirt with deep pleats, usually of a tartan wool, worn as part of the dress for men in the Scottish Highlands."

I don't think you can go too far from that definition and still call it a kilt.To me it's like these drinks that are popular these days... "Vitamin Water" and "Fitness Water" and whatever other rediculous names the companies put on them. Sure, you can add salt to water and you have salt water. You can add sugar to water and have sugar water... but there comes a point where you change it too much and what you have isn't water anymore.
