In Response To: HANDS OFF OUR KILTS *LINK* (AWBOS)

Interesting article. I have read in other placed online talking about a certain brothers selling very cheap stuff. I have never been to that street in Scotland. I also have never bought one of their kilts so my opinion is not from personal experience.

I kind of support this. Some people not educated on current fashon or especially tourists from other countries could get a horrible cheap kilt. I note that you say in a few posts that others call you thrifty or cheap but look at “you guys”. I assume that means you are Jewish or Scottish because they are stereotyped to be extra frugal. The name of the post of hands off our kilts and the link thrown in “you cheapskates” also strikes me as interesting. There is irony is that the Kilt maker wanting to establish the name quality is complaining about a street in Edinburgh.
Reguarless of the Irony of it and where you are from I still support quality. In America we are being hurt by an economic trend called globalization. Basically what you have is no charge for products from other countries and you have countries that have no health benefit requirements and no minimum working age and non minimum wage. They have make a similar product for way cheaper than your Scottish or Brittish counterpart. These are not the quality of material and workmanship that a trained kiltmaker would have but many peole do not know the difference. I like coining Scottish Kilt or Traditional Scottish Kilt to mean things about where it was from or the quality of the material and workmanship, or even both location and quality. That way there is some control and bonus for buying a custom kilt from a trained, skilled, quality kiltmaker. It safeguards the kiltmaker from the loss of profit of globalization.

Fun side note:
I am planning on getting a kilt that is made of 100% pure new wool and will be pleated to sett and very formal affair. It is of a tartan registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority (this is tricky too because it is a tartan for a state in the USA called Colorado where I live and was born). Here is the catch, due to financially paying for quality and the decline of the worth of the US dollar vs. the pound I am having a well known kilt maker in New Mexico USA make it for me. I have called my plan a traditional and traditional style Kilt. Is it the modern Scottish style that would be a style and quality worn by British nobility? Most likely, but I never called it “Scottish” Kilt because it would not be made in Scotland and despite the tartan being registered it is still a tartan for a State in the USA. I think it is by all means a kilt and the quality and style will be there for the “traditional” name but I am not sure why I’d press to call it Scottish despite the quality.

2-3 months to my leather Kilt, that is not Scottish nor traditional. It is just has pleats on back and an apron in front though haha
